Volunteer!

How does the Network run?

Most of the work at WNPJ is done by our board members and other volunteers. The bulk of the direct social justice work is done by people in our member organizations – but we have plenty to do to promote their work and provide opportunities to collaborate. We also sponsor actions or events and educational opportunities that encompass broader issues.

Contact us at info@wnpj.org for more information or to offer your skills!

OCCASIONAL TASKS:

  • Newsletter mailing: Our newsletters come out 2 or more times each year. We can use help folding, stuffing and stamping envelopes (~2 hrs). (Madison)
  • Event assistance: Since we are statewide, our programs are generally virtual, although some may be hybrid (both in-person and virtual). Twice a year we host “Assemblies” with programs including speakers followed by discussion.  Besides spring and fall assemblies, we plan monthly or occasional Zoom drop-in sessions with topics of interest, presenters, and some discussion. You could be helpful in planning, like making phone calls to potential presenters and member organizations, creating agendas or publicity, or helping to come up with themes. Or you might rather perform nuts & bolts tasks for on-site events – order, pick up or serve refreshments, set up AV equipment, call venues, help people with tabling, etc.
  • Zoom hosting: We can always use people who know how to handle the various aspects of hosting Zoom meetings – screen sharing, chat, recording, etc.
  • Graphic Design: Create images or posters for WNPJ events.
  • Video editing: If you have the ability to do simple video editing, like cropping out the fluff at the beginning and separating recordings into segments, that’s something that comes up for us periodically.
  • Video organizing: We could use someone with organizational skills and an understanding of YouTube. We have various videos on our YouTube channel that need to be organized by date/subject and making sure the settings are correct for viewing.

ONGOING TASKS:

  • Social media: We would be able to reach more people if we had a better presence on social media. Is this something you’re knowledgeable about? We currently only have a Facebook account and would like to expand to Instagram at the very least.
  • Website posting: If you have some experience with posting items online – especially calendar events – we can train you to enter them on our website. Attention to detail is important. We supply the content, and you can copy, fix it up and check for errors and make sure the links are correct.
  • Proofreading: Newsletter, web posts and weekly e-news as available.
  • Volunteer coordinator: Reach out to new volunteers and keep track of their specialties and skills.
  • Membership volunteer: Phone member organizations now and then to remind them to renew their memberships if they haven’t responded to our emails. Make sure we have the correct contact on file who communicates with their treasurer about paying dues. We don’t drop a member group for lack of payment – we can waive their dues and they can continue to be part of the Network. But we need to know if they are inactive or if they no longer want to be part of the Network.
  • Membership outreach: Another membership need is someone who can reach out to new groups, encouraging them to join. When an organization who isn’t part of the network sends us an event to post, we do that once and then send a message how we could do that regularly if they joined. Follow-up would be helpful.
