‘In the News’ Discussion Group with UNA Dane County – Madison

Monthly in person meeting of the UNA Dane County Discussion Group, Monday October 12 at 10:00am at Sequoya library, rm 105 – 4340 Tokay Blvd – in Madison. In major news, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to South African jurist Nava Pillay. Pillay was a former UN Human Rights Commissioner and former jurist for International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court. She was instrumental in working on a UN commission that concluded Israel was guilty of genocide in Gaza. Quickly following the news of her award, the United States responded with even more sanctions against the ICC. On October 7, Foreign Policy magazine published an article “Here’s what to do about Trump’s war crimes”, by an Anjali Dayal, an assistant professor at Fordham.

In other UN news, the World Health Organization (minus the U.S.) is working to stem the spread of Ebola in Africa and working to investigate with Russia the death of a young woman in Russia working at a plague clinic.
