Banner Drop for Palestinian Activist, Awdah Hathaleen – Madison

Mon Aug 3, 3:30 – 5 pm Banner Drop with Madison Rafah Sister City Project for Awdah Hathaleen.

Meet on the Campus Drive overpass, N. Prospect & University Ave.

Between July 28 and August 8, people in more than 20 cities across North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East are gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the killing of this teacher, activist, and community leader, and call for an end to violence against Palestinian communities.

Since Hathaleen’s killing, residents and activists have documented over 350 incidents of settler attacks, military harassment, home demolitions, and restrictions on access to essential resources, including water and freedom of movement. In the past year, the settlers from the neighboring settlement of Carmel have constructed 12 new caravan homes directly inside the village of Umm al-Khair. Organizers describe the global day of remembrance as both an act of mourning and a declaration that Hathaleen’s work continues through the people he inspired around the world.
