ACTION ALERT  from WI for Environmental Justice! We're looking for people who care about the Environment and want to take ACTION! Go to w4ej.org and sign the petition.

Wisconsin for Environmental Justice Seeks to Protect Planet for Future Generations

Formed in 2002, Wisconsin for Environmental Justice is a coalition that recognizes the urgent need for action. We aim to build a statewide community of organizations and individuals that can effectively bring about the change needed to meet the challenge of climate warming. This coalition will consist of environmental, farming, union, faith, tribal, youth groups, and private citizens who feel this change is necessary. The overriding goal of the organization is to protect the planet for future generations.

Our strategies are two-fold:

·         First, to increase the public’s awareness of the connection between fossil fuels and climate change.

·         Second: to urge action by decision-makers on the litigation front.

We want the State of Wisconsin and its cities and counties to pursue litigation for damages caused by the fossil fuel industry. With the recent court filings by the City of Chicago just weeks ago, a quarter of Americans now live in cities and states taking fossil fuel corporations to court.

The state of California preceded Chicago last September, demanding that oil companies fund efforts to recover from extreme weather. In December, Native American tribes on the Washington coast became the first indigenous people to sue in court over the costs of responding to climate-related risks from rising seas, flooding, and ocean acidification.

According to Grist magazine, cities, states, and tribes have filed around 30 lawsuits seeking to force the fossil fuel industry to pay for the costs of climate change.

And SIGN the PETITION.... https://www.w4ej.org/petition to demand accountability for the climate crisis.

Together, we can protect our planet for future generations. By Dean Muller dean.muller@yahoo.com
