Join FAIR Wisconsin for a virtual briefing on Monday, February 3 on Trump's executive actions and their impact on LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites

Fair Wisconsin, the ACLU of Wisconsin and Trans Law Help Wisconsin, are bringing our community together for a briefing from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm on Monday, February 3, regarding recent executive actions by President Trump. We will explore the impact on the LGBTQ+ community and what is being done or can be done to protect ourselves in Wisconsin.

Register here for the hour-long virtual briefing and you will be emailed a webinar link as the date of the event approaches. You are welcome to submit questions in advance, or bring them along to the webinar on Monday, February 3. Staying informed is going to be so important in the coming weeks, months, and years.

While this week was a difficult one at the federal level, Fair Wisconsin was proud to join Governor Tony Evers as he delivered his seventh State of the State Address, during which he reaffirmed his commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites:

“And to our LGBTQ kids and Wisconsinites - you know the promise I made to you - a promise I have always been proud to keep. I will veto any bill that makes Wisconsin a less safe, less inclusive, less welcoming place, and I’ll never stop delivering on my promise to use every power available to me to defend you, protect your rights, and keep you safe.”

In the face of federal hostility, and as we do the work to build a safer, more inclusive, welcoming Wisconsin, we are proud to have such a champion for our community in Governor Evers.

Here’s a special notice on what's happening in the West Bank and some new & ongoing opportunities to support Palestinians there as they fight to remain on their lands.

Sent to WNPJ by Madison Rafah Sister City Project – and Cassandra Dixon of Palestine Partners:

First of all, you may want to read "Madison-Based Palestine Partners Supports Women and Youth in the West Bank" recently published in the Wisconsin Muslim Journal.

The article includes an update on the Madison-Masafer Yatta Olive Grove where, thanks to your generosity, 376 trees are about to join the 379 planted last year. (You can still donate to that project here.)

Second, here is an excellent article about the escalation in Israeli attacks in the West Bank that has followed the ceasefire in Gaza. Also this comprehensive 11 minute video from Al Jazeera.

Third, be sure to watch Holy Redemption: Stealing Palestinian Land, a recent TRT World documentary about the West Bank.

Palestine Partners is seeking your support for a project in Masafer Yatta: Replacing Tuba village's only car that was torched by settlers. https://tinyurl.com/TubaCar

You can also send a check for either the car or Cassandra’s travel costs back to the West Bank in April, made out to either Palestine Partners or Cassandra Dixon, to Palestine Partners, PO Box 8414, Madison, WI 53708, or venmo me at Cassandra Dixon@Cassandra-Dixon-11

And here is a link to a GoFundMe for Cassandra’s travel costs https://tinyurl.com/CassandraInMasaferYatta

  • 2/4 @ 3:00pm: What Good is the National Interest? Rethinking the Roots of Peace, Democracy, and War – virtual Zoom event with Van Jackson, Victoria University of Wellington, NZ. The concept of the “national interest” has become an under-appreciated source of global insecurity. Governments routinely use the language of the national interest to justify a politics of violence, secrecy, and exclusion while bracketing off explicit questions of morality and justice. And national frameworks for mobilizing resources and collective action are logically mismatched against global threats like climate change. This lecture will argue that addressing the contradictions in the national interest—as well as some of international security studies’ most cherished strategic constructs—is a start point for constructing more durable forms of security. Hosted by Havens Wright Center. For more info and to register, visit: https://havenswrightcenter.wisc.edu/event/jackson/

Dayton St.) In April 1969, a small group of Black and Puerto Rican students shut down the City College of New York, an elite public university located right in the heart of Harlem. Fueled by the revolutionary fervor sweeping the nation, the strike soon turned into an uprising, leading to the extended occupation of the campus, classes being canceled, students being arrested, and the resignation of the college president. Through archival footage and modern-day interviews, we follow the students’ struggle against the institutional racism that, for over a century, had shut out people of color from this and other public universities. Hosted by the Havens Wright Center. More info? https://havenswrightcenter.wisc.edu/event/five_demands/
