WNPJ member groups part of this Back from the Brink Successful Campaign in Milwaukee

Milwaukee's Back from the Brink: The Call to Prevent Nuclear War resolution, passed unanimously by the city's Common Council, was signed by Mayor Cavalier Johnson on Tuesday. Organizers there to witness it, from left: Julie Enslow of 350MKE, Pam Richard of Peace Action of Wisconsin, Steve Watrous of @United Nations Association of Greater Milwaukee, Paula Rogge of PSR-WI and Bill Christofferson of Milwaukee Veterans For Peace. Ald. Marina Dimitrijevic, the main sponsor, had a schedule conflict and could not attend.

The resolution calls on U.S. leaders to: Actively pursue a verifiable agreement among nuclear-armed states to eliminate their nuclear arsenals; Renounce the option of using nuclear weapons first; End the sole, unchecked authority of any U.S. President to launch a nuclear attack; Take U.S. nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert; and Cancel the plan to replace the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal with enhanced weapons.

A coalition of 18 organizations endorsed it and worked for passage.

Coalition members were: Peace Action-Wisconsin, Milwaukee Veterans for Peace, Physicians for Social Responsibility-Wisconsin, United Nations Association of Greater Milwaukee, 350MKE. Marquette University Center for Peacemaking, Sierra Club-Great Waters Group, Milwaukee Friends Meeting, Greater Milwaukee Green Party, Zao MKE Church (United Methodist), Milwaukee Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition, Catholics for Peace & Justice, Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition, WI Coalition to Normalize Relations with Cuba, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom-Milwaukee, Interfaith Peace Working Group, Building Unity, Our Wisconsin Revolution.

Do you know a YOUTH who could benefit from Urban Triage’s Unhoused Youth Initiative?

Our goal is to find and connect with individuals who are experiencing homelessness, establish meaningful relationships with them, and provide them with essential support. Once we receive permission from the City of Madison and the Youth Action Board, we will offer critical assistance, including transportation, hot meals, assessments, direct referrals, and resource access. Additionally, we have partnerships with landlords and property managers to provide permanent housing options for those interested. Check this out on their website here.

Annual Banquet for Clean Water Action Council, Green Bay

Clean Water Action Council's Banquet and 40th Anniversary Celebration - Green Bay

Thursday, 17 April 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our annual banquet features a silent auction with a huge selection of art, collectables, and unique gift certificates, plus our Environmental Citizen Award and introduction of board members.

Enjoy a delicious, mostly locally sourced and organic dinner.

The featured entertainer is Tom Neilson. Known locally as the “bard insurgent,” his travels are reflected in his songs, intertwined with farm roots and a fervent commitment to social justice, as he writes about historical and current events. He has been at the forefront in helping communities organize against water privatization, mountaintop removal, nuclear energy, incinerators, GMOs, fracking, & toxic waste.

All proceeds raised during this event will contribute to Clean Water Action Council's operations that are for charitable and educational purposes, and for the promotion of environmental impacts on the waters of our region.

A campaign has been launched to try to overturn Wisconsin's unconstitutional law limiting your right to engage in Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) in support of Palestinian rights

Since 2018, Wisconsin has been one of 38 states with an “anti-boycott law” influenced by special interest groups supporting a foreign government. Act 248 requires that in order to secure a state contract of $100,000 or more, applicants must pledge not to boycott Israel (and only Israel). The law also prohibits all levels of government from dog catcher on up from engaging in any type of BDS -- again, only against Israel.

On Wednesday, April 23, members and supporters of the Wisconsin Right to Boycott Campaign will meet at the State Capitol to lobby our representatives to support new legislation to restore our right to boycott. There will be a group briefing at 9 am, followed by prearranged meetings with representatives through 2-3 pm. The day will close with a rally to protect our voices, our democracy, and our country. WE NEED YOU TO JOIN US! If you are able to attend in person, please fill out and submit this form. The campaign will be setting up meetings with individual legislators based on who responds.

You may also want to sign up for this online information sessions on getting involved in the campaign: Thursday, April 17, 7 pm Thanks for your support, Barb O. of MRSCP http://www.madisonrafah.org

  • 4/17 @ 7:00pm-8:00pm: WI Right to Boycott Campaign Webinar. Several of WNPJ's member organizations ( JVP, WBW, WCJP, and others) are working hard to protect our democratic institutions and constitutional right to dissent. But did you know that, since 2018, a WI law has restricted your right to boycott? Wisconsin is one of 38 states with an “anti-boycott law,” requiring anyone seeking a state contract of $100,000 or more to sign a pledge that they will not boycott Israel. This is a requirement of allegiance to a foreign country in order for Wisconsinites to do business in their own state! Representatives will be introducing a repeal this spring. Register here for this remote info session. Check out more information and fill out our interest form here AND join us at the Capitol on April 23, where we will lobby our representatives to restore our right to boycott. If you have questions or would like to schedule an info session specifically for your organization, contact WIRightToBoycott@gmail.com. See Spotlight above.
