Dr. Rachel Buff speaking on “Dreams of Democracy by Asylum Seekers”  Rachel Ida Buff teaches history and Comparative Ethnic Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is an author, most recently of  A is for Asylum Seeker:  Words for People on the Move / A de Asilo:  Palabras para  Personas en Movimiento.  Currently, she is working on a novel, Holy Toledo, and a book of essays about migration and survival, Thinking Like a Caravan.

Attorney Tim Muth speaking on “Challenges of Furthering Democracy Globally“  Tim Muth is a civil rights lawyer in the US and a writer and analyst on human rights and political issues in El Salvador.  Tim is a staff attorney at the ACLU of WI where his work focuses on immigrant rights and on the criminal justice system among other civil rights issues. He is also the founder and principal author of El Salvador Perspectives, a leading English language source of news and information about contemporary El Salvador.
Dr. Paru Shah speaking on “Assaults on Democracy  Domestically”  Dr. Paru Shah is an Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Shah has authored numerous scholarly publications exploring her research interests in race and American politics, ethnicity and politics, urban politics, and public policy analysis.
Dr. Chia Youyee Vang is Interim Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer and Professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She oversees the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) that is responsible for advancing diversity and equity and fostering inclusion for all members of the campus community.  She is a professor of history and has been on the UWM faculty since 2006.
