Congresswoman Lee Introduced a Resolution to Monitor and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from the U.S. Military. Barbara Lee’s legislation demands that the U.S. military account for its heavy carbon bootprint and track, reduce and report greenhouse gas emissions for all operations, including troop deployments, overseas bases and bombings. WIsconsin's Gwen Moore is a co-sponsor.

  • The carbon bootprint of the US military, larger than that of many countries.
  • The wars for oil and other resources – how they support the fossil fuel-based status quo.
  • The unequal burden of both climate crisis and militarism on people of color, the poor, and future generations.
  • The resources spent on militarism and war – redirect to respond to the existential threat of climate crisis.

In the recent past, our Veterans for Peace Chapter 102 agreed to sign on to a letter to the Attorney General of our State of Wisconsin asking him to join seven other states in suing the fossil fuel industry for damages it has done through deceptions and lies that has destroyed and hurt the environment in Wisconsin. This new petition comes from a group here in Milwaukee called Wisconsin for Environmental Justice. Sign on now!

We are asking groups and individuals to sign onto this petition! Go to their website  w4ej.org and sign on. When you go to the website touch the three lines in the upper righthand corner and touch 'sign the petition'. The website is filled with wonderful and helpful information about our fight to save our environment. Then, forward this link and request to those in your networks. Here is a good report on the issue by Democracy Now.

VFP is also working on this issue nationally and in the past few weeks during the COP26 in Scotland. The national committee is the CCMPG which is bringing the issues of militarism and its large part in the climate crisis. This petition mentioned above is our local way to support this work to save our planet. If you have questions or suggestions please contact me, koshinbobh@gmail.com. Thanks sister and brother warriors for Peace!
