2009/01/16: Greek Prime Minister halts U.S. weapons shipments to Israel

In an inspiring example of nonviolent resistance to war, Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has refused the U.S. government permission to use Greek ports for a planned shipment of weapons to Israel. The U.S. was seeking to send a container ship from Greece to Israel with 3,000 tons of ammunition to replenish stocks depleted by the Israeli attack on Gaza. The U.S. will now have to seek other routes for the shipment. Please send your thanks to Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis through the Greek Consulate in Chicago (email here... you can also call the Chicago Consulate at: (312) 335-3915)
