4 Wisconsin House members vote to exit Afghanistan
Submitted by admin on Sun, 05/30/2010 - 10:45amFour Wisconsin Democrats were among 162 House members who voted July 1 to require the Obama administration to provide Congress with an exit strategy and troop withdrawal timetable from Afghanistan. The foursome also voted to end all funding except for withdrawing US troops.
The 162 "yes" votes -- 24 more than last year, and including Speaker Nancy Pelosi this time -- were a new high water mark for opponents of the war. The amendment, By Wisconsin's David Obey, left, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts and Walter Jones of North Carolina, failed 260-162 with 11 not voting. Roll call.
2010/05/30: Journal Sentinel: Chuck Baynton: Nuclear abolition must be goal; no other strategy makes sense

Forty years into the NPT era, it is time that nuclear-armed nations come to fear the risks of open-ended nuclear possession more than we fear life with only the same deterrent options most nations have.

Veterans for Peace reminds us that the military casualty count, in Afghanistan or any other war, is miniscule in comparison to civilian casualties, which have been astronomical since World War I.
Feingold Afghanistan timetable amendment gets 18 votes

The vote on Feingold's amendment to a supplemental appropriations bill, which included another $30-billion for the Afghanistan war, was 18-80. Just Foreign Policy has more.
