$23,000-30,000 DOE

A small animal advocacy non-profit seeks an executive director.  performing a wide variety of tasks with the support of the board of directors and volunteers. The organization is based in Madison, but active statewide. Primarily telecommuting is an option, but the candidate must be regularly available in Madison. Some travel may be required in state. Key duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Initiate/oversee campaigns that further the mission
  • Stay apprised of animal-related bills each legislative session and alert members regarding action that should be taken
  • Write to city, county, and state legislators and speak at hearings in opposition to or in favor of animal-related legislation
  • Identify targets for actions and coordinate protests, leafleting, or other methods as appropriate


  • With assistance from board members and volunteers, organize and execute two existing events
  • Create, plan, and execute additional events to gain funding and recognition
  • Host or assist in hosting monthly advocacy groups
  • Identify, coordinate, and participate in regular tabling activities


  • Identify funding sources and write grants to secure operations and projects funding; candidates with grant writing experience strongly preferred
  • Write effective donor appeals 4x year
  • Insure that donations are properly recorded, deposited, and acknowledged


  • Write, scout, edit, and create quarterly newsletter, regular e-alerts, and website blog
  • Perform social media marketing tasks for organization Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Maintain  and update organization website; knowledge of web best practices and web editing -preferred
  • Develop new organization literature as required; knowledge of print best practices and production preferred
  • Keep the organization in the news through various PR tactics, including letters to the editor, protests, campaigns, radio broadcasts, etc.
  • Serve as the point of contact and spokesperson for the organization


  • Through various means, maintain active and involved membership and cultivate increased membership
  • Be responsible for volunteer coordination
  • Respond to member inquiries and concerns

Computer experience preferred:

  • HTML
  • Possession of and proficiency with software to produce/edit/maintain web and print media;
