Honoring and Educating: The Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Sustainability, a WNPJ member group,  is hosting a weekend of events August 16 - 18  to celebrate the legal transfer of the property from executive director Gene Farley to the center. Featured will be a dinner, "Feast from the Fields," with food from its farm incubator. The Farley Center also has a peace and justice center and a green cemetery. "It's really about community," says center facilitator Susan Corrado to explain the unique combination of programs at the center. Isthmus, 8/1/13.

Temple attack united victim's son, ex-racist: After the shootings at theSikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin last year, former white-supremacist Arno Michael asked to meet with Pardeep Kaleka, whose father was killed in the attack. The two have come together to form Serve2Unite, a community group that attempts to counter violence with peace. "We were both hoping ... we could take something tragic and turn it into something positive - a learning experience for the entire community," Kaleka said. "We were both on that same mission, in our different ways." Wisconsin State Journal, 8/5/13. Serve2Unite is a WNPJ member group.

Wiggie's offers building to county: Dane County Human Services is considering purchasing Wiggie's, an east-side bar and restaurant snd turning it into a homeless day shelter.. Shine608, a Madison nonprofit directed by Sarah Gilmore and Z! Haukeness, submitted a proposal to run the facility. “We’re committed to bringing permanent resources to the homeless so that they can feel like they belong somewhere,” said Gilmore. Wisconsin State Journal, 8/6/13. Z! Haukeness is the Bring Our War $$ Home coordinator at WNPJ.

Longtime Falk aide fought for women's rights: Sharyn Wisniewski, former chairwoman of the Wisconsin Women's Network died of brain cancer at the age of 62. “She was constantly trying to empower people who were powerless — whether it was people with some kind of illness, or children, or women,” said former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.  Wisconsin State Journal, 8/3/13. The Wisconsin Women's Network is a WNPJ member group. 
Support new proposal for Badger land: In a letter to the editor, Dave Tremble of the Sauk County Conservation Alliance; Laura Olah of Citizens for Safe Water Around Badger; and George Meyer of the  Wisconsin Wildlife Federation urge people to support a reuse proposal for the former Badger Ordnance land made by the Badger Oversight Management Commission.
