Action Alert 1: Stand with Oak Creek
Background: As the Sikh community in Oak Creek continues to mourn the six innocent people murdered at their place of worship, people across the state are taking a clear stand in solidarity and support.  Given the scant media coverage or political response and the lack of a broader conversation about racism and violence, such grassroots statements are especially important.
Take Action: Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE) will deliver messages of support to the families and survivors in Oak Creek, at the end of the month.  Click here to add your name and personal message to the card.

Action Alert 2: Join the monthly drone vigil
Background: Peace activists will vigil on August 28, in opposition to drone warfare and the $8 million drone aircraft training facility being built in southwest Wisconsin with public federal and state funds.  The vigil is a nonviolent, solemn presence at the gates of Volk Field / Camp Williams, with the intention of bringing the voices of innocent drone victims to the military base.
Take Action: Join the Volk Field / Camp Williams vigil from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on Tuesday, August 28.  Meet at the picnic wayside off of County Road C between 3 and 3:15 pm (after taking the Camp Douglas exit off I-90/94); a Madison area carpool meets at East Towne Mall at 1:20 pm.

Action Alert 3: Petitions against NBC's "Stars Earn Stripes"
Background: The new NBC "reality" show "Stars Earn Stripes" pairs minor celebrities with U.S. military personnel for supposed training missions.  In response, nine Nobel Peace Laureates objected to what they called part of "an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence."  The Laureates urged NBC to "stop airing this program that pays homage to no one."
Take Action: Sign an online petition from Roots Action asking NBC to "air an in-depth segment showing the reality of civilian victims of recent U.S. wars," and/or sign onto a letter from CodePink urging NBC to take the show off the air.

Action Alert 4: Support Aramark workers - Madison rally
Background: Aramark has unilaterally made changes to work conditions at its Madison laundry that go against recent agreements with the workers' union.  Following these controversial changes, management has stepped up disciplinary actions against employees.
Take Action: Attend a rally supporting Aramark workers local 229 at 1:30 pm Friday, August 17 at Aramark, 1212 N. Stoughton Rd, Madison.
