Dear Ms. Rowe,

We are writing to express our support for the protection of the bats of Wisconsin from depredation by the fungus causing white-nose syndrome. Bats are an important part of our ecosystem and need immediate and appropriate action to help protect them from this fungal disease. Actions we support and encourage include:

  1. Permanent rule proposal to list four cave bat species as threatened in § NR 27.03(3), Wis. Adm. Code.  The proposed changes will add the four cave bat species in Wisconsin to the Wisconsin threatened species list. The four species include the little brown bat, big brown bat, northern long-eared bat, and eastern pipistrelle.

  1. Permanent rule proposal to list the white-nose syndrome fungus, Geomyces destructans, as a prohibited invasive species in § NR 40.04(2), Wis. Adm. Code.

  1. Permanent rule proposal to adopt emergency Order IS-49-10 (E) regarding the management of white-nose syndrome in bats.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
