CANCELLED-Madison Urban Ministries Partners for Change Luncheon

Event Dates:
Request for community support!
Coronavirus, COVID-19, is creating many unprecedented circumstances and its impact is widespread in our own community.
Madison-area Urban Ministry (MUM) is making the difficult, yet important, decision to cancel their annual Partners for Change luncheon scheduled for April 30. “It’s a difficult decision,” states Kathy Eckenrod, MUM’s Development Director, “yet we feel a responsibility to ensure the safety of all who would otherwise attend.”
A major fallout to event cancellations like this is the effect on the most vulnerable members of our community who are supported through local non-profits. This luncheon is MUM’s largest fundraising event of the entire year. Last year the event raised $80,000; the goal for this year’s event was $100,000. MUM will suffer a significant loss as a result of this decision, but—with the community’s help—they hope to make up enough of this loss to continue their mission.
Madison-area Urban Ministry’s programs, such as Journey Home, Mentoring Connections, Just Bakery and Healing House, support those returning to our communities after periods of incarceration, children with an incarcerated parent, individuals facing high barriers to employment, and homeless families in need of recuperative care.
In lieu of the canceled April 30 event, they are hoping to plan a “virtual event” at another time to help donors learn of the work they do and the difference they have made in our community. MUM has a 47 year history of working to support and strengthen our community. COVID-19 requires a response that looks at the wellbeing of our entire community and we feel that this decision does that. “Our Partners for Change are still with us, we're just not having lunch together this year," affirms Executive Director Linda Ketcham.
