Freedom Cities Campaign

Join People Power – the ACLU’s grassroots organizing arm – and help us turn your town into a Freedom City that protects and respects the rights of immigrant families in this country.

Francisco Rodriguez grew up just like any other child in America. He went to school, he played at the park, he sat outside a 7-11 on hot days and sipped slurpees with his friends.

There was only one difference between him and his friends. Francisco was an undocumented immigrant. He had to live every day with the fear of immigration authorities arresting him – every time he went out in public, applied to a school, or filled out a job application.

But after President Obama enacted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for children like Francisco who have never even known another country as home, he was free. He could go to school, participate in his community, and finally feel like he could be whatever he wanted. In short, live the American dream.

Then, after Francisco made a mistake, he was awoken at 7:30 AM on Sunday, March 26 by the loud banging of ICE agents at his door. They then whisked him away in handcuffs to a detention center. He later learned he was one of 83 other immigrants caught in this dragnet.

This could have been the end of an incredibly sad story, but once again we saw the power of our communities to resist. People demanding Francisco’s release flooded the telephones at the ICE facility, rallies were organized, thousands of people demanded his release on social media. After a day and a half of intense pressure – ICE released Francisco on bond.

Right now we’re making a big push for local law enforcement to adopt crucial policies that will protect immigrants like Francisco from Trump’s regime. There are more dragnets, immigrants who will be under attack, and we have to stand up for them. And we’ve seen we can win if we stand up.

In order to do that, we need people like you to join People Power – the ACLU’s grassroots organizing arm – and participate in our Freedom Cities campaign where we can organize to stop deportations and arrests like that of Francisco.

Join People Power and help us turn your town into a Freedom City that protects and respects the rights of immigrant families in this country.

Together, we can make a real difference. All you have to do right now is take the first step and say you’re willing to do something big and important to protect immigrant families in your community.

In solidarity,
